16GB iPhone - Apple releases the new 16GB iPhone

Ladies and gentlemen, it is official. Apple, Inc. has released the new 16GB iPhone. The eagerly anticipated 16GB iPhone is the natural successor to the original 8GB iPhone. Initially priced at $499.00 (with a 2-year contract with AT&T), the 16GB iPhone is probably a bit too expensive for most consumers. However, many techies are falling over themselves to get their hands on this monster of a phone.

Just like the original 8GB model, the 16GB iPhone can still only be used with AT&T service. There are many people out there who claim to be able to "unlock" or "hack" the iPhones, but if I'm going to dish out $499.00 for a 16GB iPhone, I'm not going to mess around with it and risk breaking it. Being the size of the larger iPod Touch, the new 16GB iPhone also has greater appeal as a mobile digital-storage device.

For those who are new to the iPhone bandwagon, where is a quick rundown of some of the specs:

Size and weight

  • Height: 4.5 inches (115 mm)
  • Width: 2.4 inches (61 mm)
  • Depth: 0.46 inch (11.6 mm)
  • Weight: 4.8 ounces (135 grams)
Wireless data
  • Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)
  • EDGE
  • Bluetooth 2.0+EDR

Audio

  • Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
  • Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 1, 2, and 3), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

Display

  • 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
  • 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 ppi
  • Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously
So As you can see, the new 16GB iPhone completely blows every other phone out of the water. The only real downfall that I see is the fact that you can currently only use them with AT&T. Hopefully, that will be changing in the not-too-distant future.
